Operations Performance
APS
The Adult Protective Services (APS) Unit of the Division of Aging, Adult, and Behavioral Health Services (DAABHS) works to promote the health, safety, and independence of older adults and adults with disabilities.
Investigations
APS investigates allegations of maltreatment, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults who are impaired or endangered and who do not reside in a long-term care facility. Allegations involving long-term care facilities are investigated by APS only if a family member is the alleged offender.
Custody
Following an investigation into alleged adult maltreatment or neglect, APS will remove the client from dangerous situations when necessary to protect their health, safety, and independence.
Forensics
The Forensics Unit at Arkansas State Hospital (ASH) conducts evaluations of individuals involved in the criminal justice system when a judge orders a mental evaluation to determine if the person is fit to stand trial. The Forensics Unit also coordinates treatment in order to restore the person to fitness, if possible.
Evaluations
A judge can order a mental evaluation to determine if an individual is fit, or competent, to stand trial in a criminal case.
Restorations
If the person is found not fit, or incompetent, to stand trial the judge can order treatment to attempt to restore the individual’s competency. The Forensics Unit coordinates restoration treatment either at ASH or through outpatient treatment.
